Version 1.27.0 Released
This update shifts the focus away from pure combat progression and toward something Knights of Crystalis needed more of:
exploration.
Forgotten Roads adds hidden routes, alternate solutions, collectible curiosities and new reasons to revisit existing regions.
These are not repeatable farming activities.
They are one-time discoveries designed to make the world feel deeper, more interconnected and more rewarding to investigate.
Forgotten Roads
Across the world, 12 hidden routes can now be discovered.
Each Forgotten Road is tied to an existing region and represents a location, path or secret that is not immediately understood when first found.
Every route begins with a Survey.
Surveying costs a small amount of Stamina and reveals:
- the route’s clue
- its current state
- possible solution methods
- the systems that can help unlock it
Once surveyed, the route can be completed through one of several approaches.
Multiple Ways to Solve Each Road
Every Forgotten Road has three different solution paths.
That creates a total of:
36 possible solution methods
These paths are not simply three different buttons that do the same thing.
They can depend on progress in systems such as:
- Explorer Score
- Bestiary / Monster Research
- Adventurer’s Guild
- Atlas Maps
- Crownstead
- Hall of Legends
- Legendary Imprinting
- World Tiers
- Achievements
- traditional level-based Fieldcraft
This means the same discovery can be approached differently depending on how your account has developed.
A monster researcher may understand a route through creature knowledge.
An explorer may solve it through maps and field experience.
A veteran endgame player may qualify through Hall, Guild or World Tier accomplishments.
And players without specialized progression can still rely on slower Fieldcraft-style requirements.
One-Time Exploration
Forgotten Roads are intentionally not another repeatable economy loop.
Each route pays out only once.
Once a Road has been solved, its discovery remains part of your permanent exploration history.
This keeps the system focused on:
- discovery
- account progression
- world completion
- alternative problem solving
- long-term exploration goals
rather than creating another source of infinite Gold or XP.
Wayfinder Ranks
Forgotten Roads introduce a new exploration prestige path:
Wayfinder Ranks
There are currently five Wayfinder ranks.
These represent how deeply the player has explored and documented the hidden paths of Crystalis.
Wayfinder progression is deliberately not tied to large global combat bonuses.
The goal is exploration prestige, not another layer of mandatory damage scaling.
Curios
Forgotten Roads also introduce six collectible Curios.
These are special exploration discoveries associated with hidden places and unusual routes.
Collecting them contributes to completion and Chronicle progression.
Like Wayfinder ranks, Curios are designed primarily around:
- collection
- prestige
- exploration identity
- completion goals
rather than direct combat power.
World Atlas Integration
Forgotten Roads are integrated directly into the existing World Atlas.
When a route belongs to a region, that region can now reflect the existence and state of its associated hidden path.
This makes exploration feel connected to the world rather than isolated in a separate menu.
Discovery Journal Integration
Forgotten Roads also appear in the broader Discovery Journal / Secrets interface.
This gives players two natural ways to interact with them:
- region-first through the World Atlas
- collection-first through the Discovery Journal
Both views reference the same persistent progression.
Adventurer’s Guild Integration
The Adventurer’s Guild has been expanded again.
Version 1.27.0 increases the Guild Contract pool to:
17 Contract Templates
Forgotten Roads can now contribute to Guild objectives, making exploration part of the broader Adventurer progression loop.
Crownstead Integration
Crownstead also recognizes Forgotten Roads progress.
A new exploration milestone can contribute to the capital’s Trophy Gallery, and Crownstead can react to significant exploration accomplishments.
The new milestone includes the title:
Pale Pathmaster
This continues the direction established in Crownstead Reforged:
Major accomplishments should leave a visible mark somewhere in the world.
New Achievements
Version 1.27.0 adds eight new Forgotten Roads achievements.
These cover milestones such as:
- surveying routes
- completing hidden roads
- accumulating Roadmarks
- collecting Curios
- broader Wayfinder progression
The full game now contains:
451 achievement definitions
with 451 unique IDs.
Exploration Economy
Forgotten Roads were balanced as a finite progression system.
Across all routes, the total base rewards are:
- 54,600 Gold
- 26 Crystals
Depending on which solution paths are chosen, the maximum possible reward reaches approximately:
- 68,500 Gold
- 39 Crystals
The total Stamina required for complete exploration varies by chosen methods.
Minimum expected Stamina:
71
Maximum depending on route choices:
137
A total of 41 Roadmarks are available through the current system.
These values are finite.
Once all routes are completed, the reward pool is exhausted.
Stamina Integrity Fix
Development of Forgotten Roads also exposed an older save-state problem.
Some existing systems can increase the player’s effective maximum Stamina above the base energyMax value.
This can happen through systems such as:
- Pets
- Village upgrades
- Relics
Previously, save normalization could clamp current Stamina back down to the raw base maximum instead of respecting the player’s true effective maximum.
For example, a player with an effective maximum of:
65 Stamina
could potentially be saved back down to:
60
even though the bonus maximum was valid.
This issue has now been corrected.
The full effective Stamina cap is respected during normal saves and imported save validation.
The regression test confirmed:
65 → Survey → 63 → 6-Stamina route → 57
exactly as expected.
Manipulated imported values are still clamped safely to the real effective maximum.
No New Global Power Creep
Forgotten Roads does not add:
- global damage multipliers
- universal Crit bonuses
- endless exploration stat scaling
- repeatable high-value farming
Wayfinder Ranks and Curios are deliberately focused on exploration identity and completion.
The purpose of 1.27.0 is to make the world richer, not simply make numbers larger again.
