Version 1.26.0 Released

Version 1.26.0 is here.

This update introduces a new endgame layer designed to make the existing world of Knights of Crystalis dangerous again.

After building out the Adventurer’s Guild, Monster Research, Equipment Identity, the Hall of Legends and Crownstead, the next step was clear:

Give veteran players a reason to return to older content with stronger builds — without simply inflating rewards or replacing the game’s existing difficulty system.

Welcome to Ascending Worlds.

World Tiers

Knights of Crystalis now features four World Tiers.

These exist alongside the existing Story / Standard / Veteran combat difficulty settings.

Your normal difficulty determines the underlying combat experience.

Your World Tier acts as an additional endgame modifier layered on top of it.

The available tiers are:

  • World Tier I — Normal
  • World Tier II — Veteran
  • World Tier III — Heroic
  • World Tier IV — Mythic

World Tier I represents the normal game.

The higher tiers progressively strengthen enemies, improve rewards and introduce additional combat modifiers.

World Tier II — Veteran

Veteran is the first step into Ascending Worlds.

Enemies receive approximately:

  • +35% Health
  • +18% Attack

Rewards increase by:

  • +8% Gold
  • +8% XP

Loot generation also receives an additional +18 Magic Find contribution.

Veteran becomes available after completing Chapter XIV.

This tier is intended as the natural first step for players who have finished the current Campaign but still want existing PvE content to remain meaningful.

World Tier III — Heroic

Heroic significantly increases enemy durability and offensive pressure.

Enemies receive approximately:

  • +75% Health
  • +35% Attack

Rewards increase by:

  • +14% Gold
  • +14% XP

Loot receives approximately:

  • +40 Magic Find

Heroic requires more than simply finishing the Campaign.

To unlock it, players must prove themselves by completing:

  • 25 Veteran World Tier victories
  • 2 Hall of Legends Trials

This is where Ascendant Traits also become increasingly important.

World Tier IV — Mythic

Mythic is the highest World Tier currently available.

Enemies receive approximately:

  • +130% Health
  • +55% Attack

Rewards increase by:

  • +20% Gold
  • +20% XP

Loot receives approximately:

  • +70 Magic Find

Mythic is deliberately much harder than the increase in economic rewards.

That is intentional.

The highest difficulty should be about stronger enemies, better loot quality, prestige and build testing — not simply multiplying Gold generation.

Unlocking Mythic requires:

  • Heroic already unlocked
  • 30 Heroic victories
  • 4 Hall of Legends Trial clears
  • 14 Crownstead Civic Upgrades

This connects World Tier progression directly to the broader endgame.

Ascendant Traits

Higher World Tiers can now generate enemies with special Ascendant Traits.

Version 1.26.0 introduces six:

Vampiric

Enemies recover health through offensive pressure.

Bulwark

Enemies gain enhanced defensive resilience.

Frenzied

Enemies become significantly more aggressive.

Warded

Provides additional elemental protection.

Thornbound

Punishes reckless offense with retaliatory effects.

Relentless

Designed around sustained pressure and reduced opportunities to recover.

These Traits are intended to make enemies mechanically different instead of simply increasing their Health bar.

Mythic Bosses

Mythic bosses are especially dangerous.

Every Mythic boss receives:

two different Ascendant Traits.

This means the same boss can require different approaches depending on the generated trait combination.

A Vampiric + Bulwark boss creates a very different problem than a Frenzied + Thornbound version.

The goal is to keep repeated endgame encounters less predictable.

Hard Combat Caps

Ascendant Traits respect the existing KoC combat limits.

Additional effects cannot bypass important defensive ceilings.

Current relevant caps include:

  • Damage Reduction: 65%
  • Life Steal: 35%
  • Elemental Resistance: 75%

These limits prevent combinations of high World Tier scaling and enemy Traits from producing effectively invulnerable encounters.

Better Loot, Not Runaway Inflation

One of the most important design goals of Ascending Worlds is keeping the existing economy intact.

World Tiers increase difficulty much faster than they increase Gold and XP.

Even Mythic is capped at:

+20% Gold and XP

The larger incentive comes from improved loot quality through Magic Find and access to harder versions of existing content.

This prevents World Tier I from becoming economically irrelevant.

Players should choose higher tiers because they want:

  • better loot opportunities
  • harder encounters
  • stronger build tests
  • additional progression
  • prestige

not because lower tiers become completely inefficient.

Existing Difficulty Settings Remain

World Tiers do not replace:

  • Story
  • Standard
  • Veteran

Those settings continue to control the game’s underlying difficulty.

World Tiers are a separate endgame overlay.

This also creates more flexibility.

A player may prefer Standard + Heroic World Tier.

Another may run Veteran + Mythic for the highest possible challenge.

The two systems serve different purposes.

Supported PvE Content

World Tiers apply across a broad selection of existing PvE activities.

This allows old regions and encounters to become relevant again without rebuilding them as separate versions.

A total of 12 PvE modes currently support the World Tier overlay.

However, several systems are deliberately excluded.

Hall of Legends Remains Independent

The Hall of Legends already has its own difficulty progression, boss sequencing and record system.

World Tier scaling is therefore disabled inside the Hall.

This keeps:

  • old records comparable
  • Trial balance predictable
  • existing Hall progression intact

Arena Remains Independent

Arena combat also remains outside the World Tier system.

Applying World Tier multipliers to competitive or rating-based encounters would distort the Arena’s existing balance.

Abyss Tower Remains Independent

The Abyss Tower was initially considered for World Tier support during development.

It was deliberately excluded after balance testing.

Tower battles do not consume normal Stamina.

Allowing Mythic Magic Find inside a freely repeatable activity would create an unintended high-end loot farming route.

The Tower therefore continues to use its own dedicated difficulty and reward structure.

This was an important balance fix made before release.

Season and Nexus Independence

Seasonal activities and Nexus encounters also remain outside the World Tier overlay.

These systems already have dedicated scaling and progression models.

Keeping them independent avoids stacking multiple difficulty layers on top of one another.

Bestiary Integration

Ascendant Traits now contribute to Monster Research.

When encountered, their identities can become part of the relevant Bestiary dossier.

This required an additional integration fix during development.

Originally, unknown Ascendant Trait IDs could have been displayed using an unrelated Hunt Modifier label.

That behavior has been corrected.

Traits such as:

Vampiric

now appear as Vampiric in the research dossier rather than being misidentified as another modifier.

Adventurer’s Guild Integration

The Adventurer’s Guild continues to expand alongside the rest of the game.

Version 1.26.0 increases the Contract pool to:

16 Contract Templates

World Tier progression can now become part of Guild objectives, giving players another reason to engage with higher difficulty levels.

Crownstead Integration

Ascending Worlds also connects directly to Crownstead Reforged.

World Tier accomplishments can contribute to civic prestige and Trophy Gallery progression.

This helps maintain the design philosophy introduced in version 1.25.0:

Major accomplishments should leave a mark somewhere in the world.

New Achievements

Version 1.26.0 adds seven new World Tier achievement definitions.

These track progression through Ascending Worlds and provide additional milestones for players pushing into Heroic and Mythic content.

Persistent Progression

World Tier victories are tracked directly in the save.

Relevant records include:

  • total World Tier victories
  • Ascendant Trait victories
  • Mythic boss victories
  • highest unlocked World Tier
  • currently selected World Tier

These values have also been added to diagnostic and support data.

This is important for future bug reports because combat behavior can now differ significantly depending on the selected World Tier.

Safe Unlock Handling

World Tier progression is validated when loading saves.

A modified or older save cannot simply claim Mythic as its active tier without meeting the requirements.

If the selected World Tier is not actually unlocked, the game safely falls back to:

World Tier I — Normal

This prevents malformed or manually edited saves from entering unsupported states.

Save Compatibility

Version 1.26.0 remains compatible with existing saves.

  • Save Schema remains 38
  • No save reset required
  • No manual migration required
  • Crownstead progress remains intact
  • Hall progression remains intact
  • Guild progression remains intact
  • Bestiary progression remains intact
  • Equipment progression remains intact

World Tier data is added automatically to compatible older saves.

As always, keeping a manual save export before replacing a browser build is recommended.
