Version 1.44.0 Released
Abyss Reborn established the foundation. Abyss Mastery turns it into a real endgame system.
Version 1.44.0 – Abyss Mastery focuses on player agency, deeper risk management, stronger Guardian encounters, and long-term replayability.
The goal of this update was simple: make every Abyss expedition feel more deliberate.
Boons Are Now Choices
Memory Shrines no longer simply hand out a random Boon.
You are now presented with three different Boons and choose the one that best fits your current expedition.
Elite victories also provide more control over your build by offering two Boon choices.
This means Abyss runs can now develop into actual temporary builds instead of being shaped entirely by random rewards.
You may choose to focus on:
- raw damage
- survivability
- recovery
- speed
- Guardian damage
- Magic Find
- or combinations that complement your current party
The deeper you descend, the more important these decisions become.
Black Pacts Reworked
Black Pacts are now complete risk/reward decisions.
Instead of receiving isolated random effects, you are presented with multiple Boon + Curse combinations and choose which Pact — if any — is worth accepting.
A powerful offensive bonus may come with stronger enemies.
A defensive advantage may increase incoming pressure elsewhere.
A valuable reward multiplier may make the rest of the expedition significantly more dangerous.
The Abyss now asks a much more important question:
How much power are you willing to buy with risk?
Corruption Tiers
Corruption now has clearly defined progression thresholds.
Your expedition moves through five danger states as Corruption increases, culminating in the new Abyssal tier at 100 Corruption.
Higher Corruption no longer exists purely as a reward modifier.
It now directly influences the difficulty and behavior of the expedition.
As Corruption rises:
- enemies become increasingly dangerous
- Elite encounters receive additional pressure
- Guardians become stronger
- high-Corruption runs become significantly less forgiving
- final rewards continue to improve
At 100 Corruption, the expedition reaches its maximum threat level.
Reaching the end is no longer enough.
Now you can choose how dangerous that end becomes.
Guardian Mechanics 2.0
All five Abyss Guardians have been expanded with dedicated automatic combat mechanics.
They are no longer defined primarily by inflated stats.
Each Guardian now behaves differently during battle.
The Hollow Warden
The Warden reinforces itself through recurring defensive phases, forcing your party to break through repeated protection rather than relying entirely on initial burst damage.
The Cantor Below
The Cantor applies sustained pressure through life-draining effects and increasingly dangerous targeting behavior.
The Null Shepherd
The Shepherd disrupts conventional damage strategies through defensive shifts and resistance changes during combat.
The Maw of Stars
The Maw becomes more dangerous as the battle continues, rewarding parties capable of ending the encounter before its scaling becomes overwhelming.
The Crown Beneath
The final Guardian now progresses through multiple combat phases as its Life falls.
At high Corruption, these mechanics become even more dangerous.
Combat remains fully automated.
The strategy still happens before and between encounters: party composition, equipment, Tactics, route selection, Boons, Pacts, and Corruption management determine whether your company survives.
Abyss Mastery Challenges
Version 1.44.0 introduces 8 persistent Mastery Challenges.
These are designed to provide long-term goals beyond simply clearing every depth once.
Challenges include feats such as:
- clearing deeper Abyss regions at high Corruption
- surviving extreme-risk expeditions
- defeating Guardians under harsher conditions
- completing runs with multiple Curses
- avoiding recovery opportunities
- hunting Elite encounters
- maintaining strong party health
- mastering different tactical setups
Mastery progression persists between expeditions.
Rewards use existing game resources rather than introducing another separate currency system.
High-Risk Expeditions
The combination of selectable Boons, selectable Black Pacts, persistent Life, Corruption thresholds, and stronger Guardians creates a much wider range of viable Abyss strategies.
A safe run may prioritize recovery and controlled Corruption.
An aggressive run can stack rewards and offensive bonuses while deliberately pushing toward maximum threat.
A Mastery run may require building the entire expedition around a specific challenge condition.
The same Abyss depth can now play very differently depending on the decisions made along the way.
