Version 1.48.0 Released

Arsenal Reforged gave you more ways to build your equipment. Heroes Reborn gives you more ways to build the heroes wearing it.

Version 1.48.0 – Heroes Reborn expands the entire hero roster with a new specialization layer designed to create stronger identities, clearer combat roles, and more meaningful party composition.

This update does not replace the existing Hero systems.

It builds on top of:

  • Talents
  • Mastery Boards
  • Evolutions
  • Bonds
  • Party Tactics
  • Arsenal equipment
  • Abyss progression

The goal is simple:

The same Hero should now be able to support multiple distinct builds.

Specializations for the Entire Roster

Heroes Reborn supports the complete existing roster of 146 Jobs and Evolutions.

Every Job can now access three specialization paths.

Rather than creating bespoke one-off systems for only a handful of starter classes, the specialization framework is derived from each Job's combat role and identity.

Across the roster, there are:

6 role families

and

18 specialization paths

This allows the system to scale across the full Job roster while still giving offensive, defensive, support, healing, caster, and hybrid Heroes different strategic options.

Unlocking Specializations

Specializations become available once a Hero reaches Job Level 50.

The first specialization choice is free.

After that, switching paths costs only existing Gold.

There is:

  • no new currency
  • no specialization token
  • no additional permanent resource grind

The system is designed to encourage experimentation without adding another economy layer.

Three Paths Per Hero

Every Job receives three specialization options suited to its role.

The intention is not simply:

+5% Attack +5% Defense +5% Speed

Specializations can alter how a Hero behaves during automated combat.

Depending on the chosen path, a Hero may gain access to mechanics such as:

  • automatic Barriers
  • Skill Echoes
  • Cooldown support
  • Elemental Exposure
  • Execute follow-ups
  • improved recovery
  • Guardian-focused attacks
  • altered healing priorities
  • offensive support behavior
  • defensive support behavior

This creates meaningful differences between two copies of the same Job.

The underlying Hero may be identical.

The build no longer has to be.

Automated Combat Remains

Combat remains fully automated.

Heroes Reborn does not introduce manual ability activation.

Instead, specialization choices influence the rules your Heroes follow once combat begins.

Your decisions still happen during preparation:

  • Hero selection
  • specialization
  • equipment
  • Talents
  • Mastery
  • Party Tactics
  • Oaths
  • route decisions
  • Abyss Boons
  • Black Pacts

Once the fight starts, your company executes the build automatically.

That remains a core design principle of Knights of Crystalis.

Path Progression

Each specialization tracks its own progression independently.

For every path, the game now records:

  • victories
  • Boss victories
  • highest Abyss Depth reached
  • Mastery status

Switching to another specialization does not erase your previous path progress.

If you later return to an older path, its history remains intact.

This allows a single Hero to build a long-term record across multiple playstyles.

Path Mastery

A specialization becomes Mastered after 30 victories while using that path.

Mastery acts as a permanent record that the Hero has successfully developed that specialization.

Because progression is tracked separately for each path, completion-focused players can eventually work toward mastering all available approaches for their favorite Heroes.

This also gives older Heroes additional progression goals without requiring another level-cap increase.

Company Synergies

Heroes Reborn also introduces a new party-composition layer:

Company Synergies.

Certain combinations of roles automatically create additional party effects.

Version 1.48.0 launches with three Company Synergies:

Balanced Company

A well-rounded composition containing complementary combat roles gains a general-purpose team benefit.

This rewards parties built around coverage rather than extreme specialization.

Arcane Cadence

Magic-focused compositions can synchronize their combat rhythm, improving the effectiveness of spell-oriented parties.

This gives caster-heavy Companies a stronger identity beyond simply stacking offensive stats.

Spearhead

Aggressive frontline compositions can trigger a more offensive team profile designed around pressure and momentum.

This supports parties built to end encounters quickly rather than win through long-term sustain.

Company Synergies activate automatically when their composition requirements are met.

No additional equipment slot or resource is required.

Specialization + Arsenal Builds

Heroes Reborn was deliberately designed to follow Arsenal Reforged.

The new systems are intended to interact.

An item that previously looked situational may become extremely valuable when combined with the correct specialization.

Examples include:

  • Execute equipment paired with an Execute-oriented path
  • Guardian Damage gear paired with Boss-focused specialization mechanics
  • defensive Arsenal Affixes supporting Barrier-focused Heroes
  • recovery gear amplifying sustain specializations
  • Skill-focused equipment benefiting Echo-based builds

The goal is to create situations where the strongest item is not automatically the item with the largest raw Item Power number.

Build context matters more.

Specializations and Evolutions

Existing Evolution progression remains intact.

When a Hero evolves, the game checks whether the active specialization remains compatible with the new role.

If the specialization still makes sense for the evolved Job, it remains active.

If an Evolution fundamentally changes the Hero's role, only the incompatible active specialization is removed.

Historical specialization records remain saved.

This avoids wiping progression simply because a Hero reached a new Evolution stage.

Merge Protection

Specialized Heroes are now protected from accidental Merge and Auto-Merge behavior.

Once a Hero has begun specialization progression, the game treats that card as meaningful progression rather than ordinary duplicate material.

This prevents a developed Hero from disappearing because an automated merge rule considered it expendable.

Existing Systems Remain Intact

Heroes Reborn is additive.

It does not remove or replace:

  • Talents
  • Mastery Boards
  • Hero Evolutions
  • Bonds
  • Party Tactics
  • Arsenal Affixes
  • Reforging
  • Tempering
  • Abyss Oaths
  • Endless Abyss
  • Legacy Tower

Instead, specialization becomes another layer connecting these systems.

A Hero's final identity can now come from the interaction between:

Job + Evolution + Talents + Mastery + Specialization + Equipment + Party Composition + Tactics

That creates significantly more room for experimentation without requiring manual combat.
