Arcade Update

Knights of Crystalis 1.15.0 RC2 has received another major integration update.

This time, the game expands beyond its existing systems with an entirely new main menu section:

Arcade

The first game available inside the new Arcade is Pixel Sweep 1.3.0.

Rather than treating Pixel Sweep as a separate download, it is now directly integrated into Knights of Crystalis as its own in-game Arcade experience.

Welcome to the Crystalis Arcade

A new Arcade entry has been added to the main menu.

Opening it launches the new Arcade area, where Pixel Sweep can be played directly inside Knights of Crystalis.

Pixel Sweep includes:

  • 50 sectors
  • Solo mode
  • Local 2-player co-op
  • Keyboard controls
  • Touch controls
  • Gamepad support
  • Fullscreen support
  • Responsive browser integration

The game runs inside an isolated Arcade container so its rendering, CSS and JavaScript remain separate from the main Knights of Crystalis systems.

This reduces the risk of conflicts while still making the experience feel like part of the game.

Local 2-Player Co-op

Pixel Sweep also adds another local multiplayer activity to Knights of Crystalis.

Two players can play together on the same device and work through sectors cooperatively.

Depending on your setup, this can be played using keyboard or supported gamepads.

This means Knights of Crystalis now includes local multiplayer across multiple parts of the game, including Crystalis Card Arena and the new Arcade.

Integrated Save Support

Pixel Sweep is not only visually integrated.

Its progression is now connected to the main Knights of Crystalis save system.

The game tracks Arcade data such as:

  • Highscore
  • Completed sectors
  • Solo clears
  • Co-op clears
  • Full campaign completions
  • Highest sector completed
  • Recent Arcade progress

This information is stored alongside the normal Knights of Crystalis save data.

As a result, exporting and importing your KoC save also carries your Arcade progression with it.

Existing Pixel Sweep Progress

Players who previously played the standalone browser version of Pixel Sweep can also keep their progress.

When the Arcade is opened for the first time, existing local Pixel Sweep browser progress can be detected and imported into the integrated system.

After synchronization, the Knights of Crystalis save becomes the authoritative backup for Arcade progression.

Safer Save Synchronization

A synchronization safeguard was also added during development.

Pixel Sweep and Knights of Crystalis now use a small initialization handshake before progression data is accepted.

This prevents an older local Pixel Sweep browser save from accidentally overwriting newer Arcade progression after importing a Knights of Crystalis save on another device.

The goal is simple:

KoC save imports should always remain safe and predictable.

New Arcade Achievements

The Crystalis Chronicle has also been expanded with 8 new Arcade Achievements.

These include milestones for:

  • First Pixel Sweep clear
  • Multiple sector clears
  • Highscore progression
  • Local co-op completion
  • Long-term Arcade progress
  • Completing the full 50-sector campaign

The total Achievement count now increases from:

354 → 362 Achievements

All previous Achievement definitions remain unchanged.

New Arcade Tutorial

The Player's Guide now includes a dedicated Arcade / Pixel Sweep section.

It explains:

  • How to access the Arcade
  • Solo controls
  • Local co-op
  • Gamepad support
  • Arcade progression
  • Save synchronization
  • Achievement integration

This should make the new mode easy to understand without requiring external instructions.

News Board Integration

The in-game News Board has also been updated with a new pinned Arcade Integration entry.

The Arcade is therefore now represented across the same core systems as the rest of the game:

  • Main Menu
  • Save System
  • Chronicle
  • Achievements
  • Tutorials
  • News
  • Release Diagnostics

Technical Integration

The Arcade system was integrated in a way that keeps Pixel Sweep isolated from the core Knights of Crystalis runtime.

This includes:

  • Separate Arcade game files
  • Isolated embedded rendering
  • Dedicated communication bridge
  • Save synchronization
  • Fullscreen handling
  • Responsive sizing
  • Menu integration
  • Release diagnostics

This allows Pixel Sweep to remain its own game internally while still behaving like a native part of Knights of Crystalis from the player's perspective.
