Version 1.20.0 Released
Version 1.20.0 expands the main campaign with Chapter XIV – The Shattered Meridian and introduces one of the biggest role-playing changes to the game so far:
Choices now have persistent consequences.
The Meridian is breaking apart, rival# Knights of Crystalis 1.20.0 – The factions are competing for control, and the decisions made during this chapter permanently influence how the region develops.
Chapter XIV
The main campaign now contains:
14 Chapters
133 Regions
1,055 Campaign Objectives
The Shattered Meridian adds six new regions:
- Meridian Approach
- The Broken Mile
- Sable Crossing
- Wardenspire
- The Meridian Below
- Crown of the Divide
These areas contain 43 new objectives, new encounters and a complete Chapter XIV storyline.
Choices & Consequences
Several major story moments now stop normal progression until a decision is made.
These choices are persistent.
Once made, they become part of your world's history.
Three major political directions compete for influence:
The Wayfarers
Support open roads, decentralized trade and freedom of movement.
Meridian Wardens
Prioritize security, patrols and centralized control.
Independent Route
Reject permanent control by either major faction and preserve local autonomy.
The chapter contains four major decision points, including a final political resolution after the main Chapter XIV boss.
All 81 possible decision combinations were tested during development.
Meridian World State
Chapter XIV introduces three persistent regional values:
Route Security
Trade Flow
Rift Instability
These values are not purely cosmetic.
They can influence actual gameplay.
Higher Route Security can reduce regional combat pressure.
Higher Trade Flow can improve rewards and provide merchant discounts.
Higher Rift Instability increases danger but can also increase certain rewards.
The Meridian can therefore become safer, wealthier or significantly more unstable depending on the path your world takes.
Faction Reputation
Your decisions also affect relationships with the major Meridian factions.
Reputation develops through story choices and regional events and helps reflect how each group views your Crystal Company.
The system is designed around meaningful progression rather than repetitive reputation grinding.
Dynamic Meridian Events
Several new regional events can continue modifying the Meridian between major story decisions.
These include:
- Open Convoy
- Warden Patrol
- Meridian Rift Surge
- Local Route Council
The Meridian therefore remains dynamic even after individual story objectives are completed.
Connected to The Fractured Paths
The Meridian is directly connected to the Crystal Rift systems introduced in 1.19.0.
Rift Instability can now affect The Fractured Paths.
A more unstable Meridian can result in significantly stronger Rift rewards.
During testing, identical Depth 10 runs produced:
34 Rift Shards at 50 Instability
and
43 Rift Shards at 100 Instability
This allows decisions in the main campaign to influence an existing endgame mode.
New Enemies
Chapter XIV adds 12 new enemy profiles built around the Meridian storyline.
These include new regional combat roles, Rift-influenced enemies and defensive forces tied to the factions controlling the roads.
Existing Elite Variant systems also remain active within the new regions.
Four New Story Bosses
Chapter XIV introduces four major encounters:
The Gatekeeper
A powerful defender blocking access deeper into the Meridian.
Sable Matriarch
A dangerous force controlling part of the broken routes.
The Divided Sentinel
An ancient construct whose defenses reflect the fractured state of the region.
The Meridian Regent
The final major boss of Chapter XIV.
The Regent closes the central storyline before the player makes the final decision about the Meridian's political future.
Secrets of Crystalis Expanded
The Discovery Journal has received another content expansion.
The current Secrets catalog now contains:
10 Treasure Maps
12 Hidden Locations
7 Environmental Puzzles
6 Secret Mini-Dungeons
14 Ancient Relics
6 Hidden World Bosses
New Meridian secrets are integrated directly into the existing exploration systems.
The Cartographer Without a Name
A new hidden World Boss can now be discovered:
The Cartographer Without a Name
This encounter is intentionally not presented as a normal World Atlas boss.
Finding it requires following Meridian-related exploration clues and connecting information across multiple systems.
Chronicle Expansion
The Chronicle has also grown.
Version 1.20.0 now contains:
431 Achievement definitions
New achievements cover:
- Chapter XIV progression
- faction alignment
- Meridian decisions
- World State milestones
- Secrets
- the hidden Meridian boss
- multiple political outcomes
Narrative & Player's Guide
The narrative database now contains 189 quests.
Chapter XIV includes a complete quest and scene chain connected directly to the previous campaign content.
Four new bilingual Player's Guide topics have also been added to explain:
- The Shattered Meridian
- Choices & Consequences
- Meridian World State
- faction and regional progression
Stability & Regression Testing
A major regression was discovered during development before release.
Three established Chat functions, including renderChat, had accidentally disappeared while integrating the new systems.
This could have caused another startup failure similar to an older regression.
The missing functions were restored before packaging.
The final comparison confirms:
1,181 / 1,181 existing named functions preserved
No previous named gameplay function was lost.
Version 1.20.0 adds 10 new Meridian-related functions.
