Version 1.50.4 Released

Version 1.50.4 – Release Hardening & Cleanup is a focused technical maintenance update designed to reduce startup overhead, strengthen dynamic module loading, improve recovery behavior, and remove unnecessary legacy weight from the release path.

This update does not introduce new gameplay systems or balance changes.

Its purpose is to make the current technical foundation cleaner and more resilient before development shifts back toward larger gameplay updates.

Leaner Startup Release Data

The release manifest had gradually accumulated a large amount of historical patch information.

That history is useful, but it does not need to be parsed during every game startup because the full archive already exists inside the News Board.

Version 1.50.4 reduces the release manifest to the current release information required by the live build.

The historical update archive remains available in the News Board.

This reduces release.js from roughly:

146 KB

to approximately:

24.6 KB

That is an approximately 83% reduction in the size of the release script loaded during startup.

The result is less JavaScript for the browser to parse and initialize before normal play.

Dynamic Loading Watchdog

The dynamic module loader introduced during the 1.50 Technical Foundation cycle is now more resilient.

Optional modules can currently be loaded for systems such as:

  • Chiptune Audio
  • Diagnostics
  • German localization
  • Atlas Expansion

A browser, cache, host, or network issue could theoretically leave a module request waiting indefinitely if neither a successful load nor an error event was returned.

Version 1.50.4 adds a:

12-second dynamic loading watchdog

If a module remains unresolved beyond that window, the loader now marks the request as failed instead of leaving the interface permanently stuck on a loading state.

The player can then retry the system normally.

Safe Late-Load Handling

Dynamic modules now also use a stronger single-settle guard.

This protects against an unusual race condition where:

  1. a module times out,
  2. the game records the failure,
  3. the player retries,
  4. the original delayed request finally responds afterward.

A late event from an abandoned request can no longer overwrite the newer module state.

This makes module recovery more deterministic.

Retry Path Validated

The Atlas Expansion loader received a dedicated failure/recovery test.

The test intentionally stalls the Atlas module and verifies that the game:

  • detects the timeout
  • marks the module as failed
  • clears the pending loader state
  • keeps the rest of the game available
  • allows a retry
  • successfully initializes Atlas after retry

This recovery sequence now passes the release regression suite.

Improved Early Startup Recovery

Knights of Crystalis already includes a startup error screen for failures that occur before the main interface becomes available.

Version 1.50.4 improves that fallback with a direct:

Reload Game

action.

If an essential startup script fails before normal navigation and Diagnostics are available, the player now has an immediate recovery path directly from the startup error view.

The failing script information remains visible for troubleshooting.

Release and Cache Synchronization

Version 1.50.4 performs another full consistency pass across release metadata and cached resource identifiers.

The current build now consistently reports:

Version 1.50.4

with:

Cache Revision 1.50.4.135

The synchronized values cover areas including:

  • release metadata
  • startup display
  • HTML asset cache tokens
  • dynamic module fallback tokens
  • meta information
  • feedback reports
  • bug report filenames
  • Patch Herald
  • News Board

All current HTML cache references have been checked against the same revision.

This reduces the chance of mixed-version assets being retained by aggressive browser caches.

Stronger Release Regression Gates

The internal release validation suite has been expanded again.

Version 1.50.4 now verifies additional Technical Foundation and hardening requirements, including:

  • current release version
  • current cache revision
  • current English release notes
  • current German release notes
  • expected note counts
  • dynamic loading timeout configuration
  • Technical Foundation readiness
  • dynamic module registration
  • complete route registration

The Technical Foundation currently reports:

  • 26 registered modules
  • 12 system packs
  • 4 dynamic modules
  • 36 interface routes
  • 12,000 ms dynamic loading timeout

No Gameplay Rebalance

Version 1.50.4 deliberately avoids changing gameplay mathematics.

The following remain unchanged from the previous release:

  • Account XP progression
  • Merge scaling
  • Campaign Boss scaling
  • Endless Pressure
  • itemization
  • loot rates
  • Gold economy
  • Heroes Reborn
  • Company Tactics
  • Arsenal Reforged
  • Campaign progression
  • Story progression
  • Abyss progression
  • Atlas rewards
  • Crownstead progression
  • Arcade progression

This allows the release to remain a low-risk technical hardening update.
