Version 0.16.0 PUBLIC BETA Released
Aetherdeep is getting a major expansion.
What started as a compact progression game is gradually becoming a much larger dungeon adventure built around exploration, combat, character growth, and the hunt for increasingly rare loot.
This update focuses heavily on one goal:
Make the journey into the Aetherdeep feel much bigger.
300 Stages and 30 Dungeon Realms
The campaign is being expanded to 300 handcrafted progression stages, spread across 30 different dungeon realms.
Instead of simply watching the stage number increase, progression is being structured more like an expedition.
You travel deeper into a region, fight increasingly dangerous enemies, encounter stronger elite monsters and bosses, collect treasure, and eventually reach a portal leading into the next realm.
Each group of stages represents another part of the descent.
And Stage 300 isn’t necessarily the end.
After completing the main progression, the Deep Aether opens into an endless challenge for players who want to continue pushing their builds.
A More Visible Dungeon Journey
One of the biggest areas being developed is the dungeon presentation itself.
The goal is to make progression feel less like moving through a sequence of combat encounters and more like actually travelling through a dangerous world.
The planned structure includes:
Entrance → Rooms → Monster Encounters → Treasure → Elite Encounter → Boss → Portal → Next Realm
Some dungeon sections will be relatively short, while others can develop into much larger expeditions.
Future dungeon elements can also include branching paths, treasure rooms, hidden encounters, rare enemies, environmental hazards and special portals.
The important part is that travelling from A to B should become part of the adventure rather than simply being a number in the interface.
Much Rarer Loot
Loot hunting is becoming a much bigger part of Aetherdeep.
The rarity system is being expanded with extremely uncommon equipment at the upper end of progression, including the new Transcendent tier.
These items aren’t intended to rain from the sky.
Finding one should be an event.
The long-term loot system is being designed around hundreds of possible equipment combinations, powerful modifiers, increasingly difficult dungeon tiers and rare drops worth hunting for long after the normal campaign has been completed.
Some of the rarest equipment will become build-defining rather than simply providing a slightly larger number.
Higher World Tiers
The difficulty progression is expanding as well.
New World Tier V and VI challenges are being integrated for developed characters and powerful builds.
Higher tiers mean tougher monsters and much more dangerous dungeon encounters, but they will also become an important part of the hunt for exceptional equipment.
The intention is to create a proper loop:
Get stronger → enter harder content → find better equipment → refine your build → descend further.
Better Interface and Resolution Support
A major technical pass is happening alongside the new content.
Aetherdeep now targets an unusually wide range of browser layouts, from very narrow portrait screens all the way to extreme ultrawide displays.
Testing currently covers aspect ratios from:
9:32 all the way to 32:9.
Menus and HUD elements are being reorganized to remain usable on phones, tablets and desktop browsers without overlapping the actual game.
Touch targets are also being kept large enough for comfortable mobile play.
Built for itch.io AND YouTube Playables
Another major goal for this version is distribution.
Aetherdeep isn’t being developed only as an itch.io browser game anymore.
The architecture is being prepared so the same core game can also meet the requirements of YouTube Playables.
That means paying much more attention to things that players normally never see:
- fast startup
- responsive resizing
- portrait and landscape support
- mouse and touch controls
- pause/resume behavior
- reliable saving
- session restoration
- offline-safe game logic
- small download sizes
- performance on weaker mobile hardware
The important part is that these aren’t separate versions of the game.
The goal is one robust web-game foundation that can run reliably across both platforms.
Existing Saves Stay Compatible
A large expansion always introduces one dangerous monster:
the save system.
For this update, the new dungeon structure is deliberately being derived from the existing progression wherever possible instead of forcing unnecessary new save fields.
That means existing progress can continue into the expanded campaign without requiring a destructive save reset.
The game can become considerably larger while keeping the underlying progression stable.
